Business Card Scanner Offline: Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 September 2026
This policy covers the Android app Business Card Scanner Offline ("the app"), published on Google Play by DIGITAL SHIJIL LLC ("we", "us"). It is published at https://apps.digitalshijil.com/card-scanner/privacy/ and describes exactly what the app does with information.
The short version
- The card photos you take and the contact details the app reads from them stay on your phone. We never receive them, and there is no server for them to go to.
- The app has no account, no sign-in, no ads and no advertising ID.
- Two Google components inside the app send Google anonymous technical diagnostics: Google Play Billing (which handles the optional Pro purchase) and Google ML Kit (which reads the text on a card). Details are below.
What stays on your phone
- Card images. Every card you scan or import is stored as an image in the app's private storage on your phone.
- Contact details. Names, job titles, companies, phone numbers, email addresses, websites, addresses and social profiles read from your cards, plus anything you add yourself (events, tags, notes, follow-up dates), are stored in a database in the app's private storage.
- Settings. Your choices in Settings, such as the reminder time and the vCard version.
This information is processed only on your device. The text on each card is read by an OCR model that is built into the app; the image is not sent anywhere to be read. We do not collect, receive, sell or share any of it.
Scanning with Google Play services
The camera screen that finds the edges of a card and straightens it is Google's document scanner, a module of Google Play services on your phone. It runs in Google Play services, not in the app, which is why the app itself needs no camera permission. The finished image is handed back to the app and stored as described above. Google Play services may download the scanner module the first time it is used. Google's handling of Play services is described in Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Data sent to Google by components inside the app
Google's Play Console asks developers to declare data collected by the libraries inside their app. Two of them send Google technical data:
- Google Play Billing logs whether billing calls succeed or fail, even if you never buy anything, so Google can keep purchases working.
- Google ML Kit (text recognition, and the document scanner) sends Google diagnostics such as device model, Android version, app version, performance metrics, error codes and a per-installation identifier. It never includes your card images or the text read from them. Google describes this at https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure
We declare this in the Play Store's Data safety section as:
- App info and performance > Diagnostics: collected, not shared, required
- Device or other IDs: collected, not shared, required
This data goes to Google, not to us; we cannot see it and cannot delete it. It is encrypted in transit.
Purchases
The Pro upgrade is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your payment details. Google Play tells the app whether Pro is owned on this Google account, and the app keeps a small note of the answer so it works offline.
Permissions
- Notifications (Android 13 and later): asked only when you set your first follow-up date, to remind you on that day. If you refuse, follow-ups still appear at the top of your cards list.
- Fingerprint or face (optional app lock): the app asks your phone's own fingerprint, face or screen-lock check. The app never sees your fingerprint, face or PIN.
- The app does not request access to your camera, your contacts, your photos library, your location or your files. "Add to phone contacts" opens your phone's own contact editor with the fields filled in; you save it there. Photos you import come through the Android Photo Picker, one at a time as you choose them.
The Google libraries above add network access to the app's manifest for their own diagnostics. The app itself sends nothing of yours over the network.
Backups, export and deletion
- Your phone's backup. If your phone's own Google backup is switched on, Android may include the app's cards and settings in it. That backup belongs to your Google account and is controlled in your phone's settings.
- Export all my data (Settings) saves every card and note to a file you choose, as readable JSON.
- Back up (Pro) saves your cards and card images to a file you choose; Restore reads it back. The file goes only where you put it.
- Delete all data (Settings) removes every card, image, scan waiting for review, setting and reminder from the app. Uninstalling the app also removes everything it stored.
Children
The app is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If the app's handling of information changes, this page will be updated first and the date at the top will change.
