Bike Gear Calc & Maintenance ("the app") is a gear calculator and parts-wear log for bicycles. This page says what happens to what you enter. In one line: your bikes, parts and service records live on your phone and nowhere else.
What the app keeps on your phone
- Gear setups: chainring and cog teeth, wheel and tyre size, crank length, chainstay length, and the name you give each setup.
- Bikes and parts: bike names and types, odometer readings, rides you log by hand (date, distance, time, an optional note), parts with their install date and service interval, chain-checker readings.
- Service records: what was done, the date, the cost you type, parts used and notes.
- Settings: km or miles, your cadence, the rider and bike weight you give the tyre-pressure helper, and whether reminders are on.
Gear tables, speeds, wear status, tyre pressures and chain lengths are all worked out on the phone from those entries.
What the app does not do
- No location. The app has no GPS, no ride recording and no maps, and never asks for location permission. Distance comes only from what you type.
- No sensors, no Bluetooth. It does not connect to speed, cadence, power or heart-rate sensors.
- No health data. It records no heart rate, calories or body measurements. The weights you type into the tyre-pressure helper are used for that one calculation and kept only so you need not type them again.
- No account, no backend, no ads, no analytics. There is nothing to sign up for. The app contains no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK and no advertising identifier, and it makes no network request of its own. The publisher never receives your data.
- No storage, camera, contacts or microphone permission. Backups and PDFs go through Android's own file picker or share sheet, to a place you choose.
Google Play and the Pro purchase
Pro is a one-time purchase sold by Google Play. Google handles the payment; the app never sees card or payment details. The app asks Google Play whether you own Pro when it starts and whenever you return to it, and keeps only a yes/no reminder on the phone.
The Google Play Billing library that makes the purchase possible sends Google its own diagnostic logs about billing calls and connection problems. That is the one thing that leaves the phone, and it goes to Google, not to the publisher:
App info and performance > Diagnostics: collected, not shared, required
These logs are handled under Google's privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). This is also why the app's manifest lists the INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions: they belong to Google Play Billing. The billing library also carries a Google Play services location component as a dependency; the app holds no location permission, so it receives no location.
Notifications
If you turn on maintenance reminders, the app asks Android for permission to show notifications. Once a day it checks, on the phone, whether a part has reached its interval, and shows one notification if so. Nothing is sent anywhere to do this.
Sharing and backups
The app shares nothing by itself. A build-sheet or service-history PDF goes only where you send it from Android's share sheet. "Export all my data" writes one file to a place you pick.
If Android backup is on, Android may include the app's data in your own Google account backup so it returns on a new phone. The Pro reminder is left out on purpose; Google Play restores Pro instead.
Your control
- Export all my data: Settings → "Export all my data (JSON)".
- Delete all data: Settings → "Delete all data" erases every bike, part, setup, ride, check, record and setting, and cancels reminders. Uninstalling also removes everything.
The publisher holds none of your data, so there is nothing further to delete on our side.
Records, not documents
Build sheets and service histories are for personal record-keeping. Not an official document.
Children
The app is made for riders aged 13 and over and is not directed at children.
Changes
A new version of this policy will be published at the address above with a new effective date.
